Bibione has a fraction of the municipality of San Michele al Tagliamento. Its territory includes the second beach in Italy for number of admissions.
In 1956 began the first works to transform Bibione in tourist areas, creation of the first hotels and shops will bring the island to the right vines, over 50 years to become a major tourist destination for families.
In 2006, exactly 50 years later, presents a number of initiatives to celebrate the anniversary including the creation of a mascot, a smiling crab. Bibione scored twelve times for the Blue Flag, established by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), and was the first tourist site in Europe to have obtained the environmental certification EMAS. Bibione is also the first city in the world to set up a ski slope on the beach (25 meters high and about 110 long), open from 20 July 2007 to 25 August 2007.
